The name Colibri (hummingbird in English) comes from a Native American legend.
One day a terrible fire broke out in a forest. Frightened, all the animals fled their homes, feeling helpless, except for one little hummingbird. The hummingbird swooped into the stream for a few drops of water and went back to the forest to put out the fire. Then it went back to the stream again, again, again and again.
All the other animals watched in disbelief: “Your wings will burn, your beak is too small, and one drop at a time you’ll never put out the fire!”
The hummingbird, without skipping a beat, looked back and said, “I am doing what I can.”
We are the colibri family, a squad of young Burundian bloggers who strive to challenge established status quo and drive our society to the best possible level. We too have flames in our homes, in our bedrooms, in our schools, in our workplaces, in the bars, in the streets, in our markets, etc….we are not crazy enough to believe we can change all this but, like the colibri, we can do our bit.
We use our pens and keyboards to develop thought provoking ideas and share stories that inspire, inform, educate, explore or even express the feelings that we are often too scared to vocalise. Like the colibri, we fly out of our nest, travel around the country, in its remote areas, and take you with us on our adventure. Get your wings and fly with us!
